If I were you I would ignore the dmg problem until you fix the higher priority problem of the disk errors. Maybe fixing that will fix the dmg problem and I'm guessing almost certainly the spinning cursors.

As I understand it Lion drives are formatted with a special 'recovery partition' which takes the place of the separate bootable installation disks. It contains a copy of Disk Utility. Read the following on how to use this partition.
- The DMG file type is primarily associated with 'Macintosh OS X' by Apple Inc. On the Macintosh, these files are treated like a real disk. They can be created with Disk Copy, burnt to CD or mounted as a normal volume. If you have a.DMG file on a Windows PC it's likely you have a Macintosh file and you won't be able to use what is in it.
- Mar 30, 2018 I am lost, looking for any help. I found the HX Edit file and downloaded it. Then my computer wouldnt open that file so I downloaded a DMG program and was able to open it. Now I am looking at what is contained in the HX Edit download, and cant get my computer to open any of those files to install.
By the way, if you are using Lion you should update your sig.
